Solve et coagula
A comedian without an audience stores his masks during the pandemic. Locked in his attic, a conference interpreter connects people from around the world. An obsessed citizen dives into the internet in search of information that will give this historic moment meaning. An artist finds a means of expression in deep silence. A man digs into his memory in the hope of mapping out what has brought him to this point.
Carlos Cegarra wishes to explore the meaning of the two alchemical processes that give this piece its name, both individually and collectively. On the one hand, we have a social order that is dissolving before our eyes. On the other hand, we have the protagonist of this autofiction trying to piece together fragments of his life with which to construct a narrative to hold on to.
Before beginning his residency in Blanca, Carlos establishes that this time will be a decidedly liminal space, a threshold that will allow him to shift the limits of his perception of himself and his work. A close collaboration with Selu Herráiz is established as a fundamental axis of the residency. Beyond his contribution as a sound creator, Herráiz will help shape a process of artistic and experiential transformation. Jesús Victoria joins them as the third musical pillar of the project.
The arrival at the Negra Center triggers a series of events within the community of residents. As the community momentarily dissolves, attitudes, relationships, and pieces of a puzzle crystallize, intertwining real events with episodes that belong to the realm of the emotional and the imagined.
If there is one thing this story and its protagonist shy away from, it is any claim to exemplarity. However, both could well represent yet another example of the many transformative processes taking place in our society as a result of the political, social, and health crisis we are currently experiencing.
