About the Work 

Invocaciones Boleras or The Dance of the Dispossessed proposes a space where three concepts collide. The invocation of other bodies, that accompanied me in my research over the years in a desire, or almost a declaration of intent, to approach the most mystical and intangible part of dance. The pre-flamenco bolero dances from which my training as a dancer originated through the body of the dancer Carmencita Dauset. And the concept of contemporary dance (a term I extrapolate from Argentine experimental dance), understood with the interest of naming a danced and contemporary practice that is experimental and experiential, and that questions itself with a desire for transformation.

BIO

Dancer, creator, teacher, and researcher, Carmen Muñoz graduated from the CSD at the INSTITUT DEL TEATRE Barcelona. She has developed her professional career as a performer in companies such as Marco Vargas&Chloé Brûlé, José Manuel Álvarez, La Fura del Baus, and Juan Carlos Lérida. Since 2027, driven by her own curiosity, she has been developing her career as a creator with pieces such as Catalina Mía, Bailes de Histéricas, and Invocation. Committed to dance research, she is part of the Estancias Coreográficas en Oviedo (Choreographic Residencies in Oviedo) meeting, the Les Empíricxs Collective, and the Flamenco Research Laboratory in Barcelona. She has won First Prize for Choreography and the Outstanding Dancer Award for Catalina Mía in various choreography competitions in Madrid in 2017-2018. In 2021, she received the award for best performer for Estudio sobre la histeria at the 15m2 Festival, in 2022 the award for best performer at the PAD Andalucía Awards for her participation in the piece Origen, and in 2023 the award for best piece in a non-conventional space at the PAD Andalucía Awards for Invocation. She currently teaches at La Tacones and Studio 13 and gives creative workshops in different cities around Spain.
