Irene is currently returning to Blanca to continue working at this same site in collaboration with the artist Marco Ranieri on what has been renamed “Bosque de Saberes”.

Over the past month, the artist has been seeking to bring an intergenerational perspective to the space, working in collaboration with IES Valle del Segura in Blanca on a series of sessions focused on climate awareness and the care of communal spaces, as well as with a group of older people from the Blanca Day Centre to draw on their vast knowledge of agricultural traditions and the use and weaving of esparto grass.

In addition, there is a regular working group that visits the site to jointly design, plant, water, observe and care for this forest that is growing in Blanca.

BIO 

Irene Trapote (Gijón, 1998) is an interdisciplinary artist who studied Fine Art and holds a Master’s degree in Art and Creation Research from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Her practice focuses on the relationship between territory, the body and ecology, exploring the interplay between culture, environment and memory from an ecofeminist perspective. She works with audiovisual media, textiles and collaborative practices, developing site-specific projects that investigate the eco-social crisis and the construction of community knowledge.

Part of her research involves creating spaces for encounter and collaborative practice. “Jabal al nour / Mountain of Light” is a project carried out in 2023 alongside AADK and in collaboration with a group of teenagers from Blanca. This project involved a collective process to conceive, design and build a meeting space for community use in the village. After a month of residency and collective work, they succeeded in building a meeting space using recycled reeds and pallets, as well as starting a small garden.
