About the work 

This project centers on my father’s receipts together with his memories of cooking and how he transformed limited ingredients into meaningful dishes and used the act of preparing food as a quiet, sustaining form of resistance. By revisiting the stories, techniques, and improvisations he shared with others, I wanted to explore not only the ingredients, textures, and emotions embedded in these meals, but also how ordinary practices of care and creativity could become subtle, resilient forms of resistance.

For this project, I  followed some of those recipes myself, bringing their stories to life through food. I also organised a communal dinner to revisit these stories collectively and to experiment with the recipes in a shared setting. The final work is a two-channel video installation which shifts between the stories, the narrations and the cooking process.

BIO

Born in Tehran (Iran). Currently living and working between Iran and Italy.

Working fluently across diverse mediums, including installations, video, performance, photography, drawing, and collaborative didactic

projects, I navigate the intersection of personal memory and a profound engagement with global socio-political landscapes. My artistic research serves as a critical reflection on pressing issues such as immigration, the politics of inclusion and exclusion, colonialization, and the complexities of conflict and instability.

My creative practice delves beyond these socio-political facets to explore fundamental concepts of identity, memory, and the nuanced perception of time and space. By strategically involving the viewer both conceptually and emotionally, I aim to challenge and disrupt dominant narratives, offering a fresh and insightful perspective on the intricate layers of our world.

I have a Master in Arts and Politics from Goldsmiths University of London and an MFA in Visual Arts and New Media from Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze.
