Situated residencies
Site specific artistic practices
Residency program for research and context-based creation, connected to the territory and/or local communities. A transdisciplinary space that embraces the diversity of forms, languages, and methodologies within contemporary creation. The residency lasts from one to six months, with two months being the recommended minimum. The call opens several times a year.
The AADK curatorial team proposes a theme intended to inspire participating artists and to connect individual projects, forming a polyhedral discourse among participants. In addition, AADK’s conceptual lines traverse the body, territory, and spatiality, understood as social, political, and poetic fields. From this foundation, the program activates an ongoing dialogue between the local and the global, incorporating critical pedagogies and processes of knowledge exchange that value situated knowledges, collective learning, and the construction of shared imaginaries.
AADK’s Situated Residencies are articulated through transversal lines of action that permeate both artistic processes and forms of coexistence and learning. We pay particular attention to ecoacoustics and aurality, understood as embodied, cultural, and political listening practices, as well as to the exploration of more-than-human communities. These approaches are developed through BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ perspectives and practices, integrating politics of care, coexistence, and collaborative creation as central elements of the artistic work.
AADK Spain has been developing artistic residency programs since 2012. Since then, it has hosted hundreds of artists and researchers from diverse disciplines, generations, and backgrounds. Our work stems from an ongoing question: what potential does art in context and situated practice offer within rural environments? In a world marked by the virtualization of relationships and hyperconnectivity, we ask how new forms of relationship with the natural and social environment might be established. We believe that working at a local scale allows us to rethink global issues.

Artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply, as well as researchers who take artistic practice as their object of study or as part of their methodology.
* We especially encourage applications from LGBTIQ+ and BIPOC individuals, and particularly from communities affected by armed conflict, exile, and structural exclusion.
SYMPOIESIS / SITUATED Residencies / 2027

AADK Spain invites artists and researchers to participate in this edition of its artist residency program, which aims to explore the concept of “Sympoiesis” generating the conditions for nature to express itself through associative processes, and recognizing the landscape, the land, and its elements as co-authors of the work. Participants can also understand sympoiesis as an art of interdependence, revealing how human actions and ecosystem responses are intertwined. Similarly, participatory and community-based art projects can be seen as ways of weaving networks and generating new social ecosystems. The residency will take place at the Centro Negra in Blanca, Murcia.

AADK Spain invites artists and researchers to participate in this edition of its artist residency program, which aims to explore the notion of the trace as a space of transition between presence and absence, and as a tool for reconfiguring the relationship between space and memory. Participants are invited to consider the trace as a material record and as an ephemeral gesture capable of expanding the ways in which we inhabit and give meaning to the territory. The residency will take place at the Centro Negra in Blanca, Murcia.
