Rethinking territorial productivity

Critical Spatialities Residencies are conceived as a space for situated artistic research addressing the interdependencies between technology, natural processes, sociopolitical dynamics, ecologies and economies, and the spatial realities that emerge from these relationships. The program proposes a critical reflection on how territory is produced, organized and inhabited, paying attention to the tensions between urban and non-urban environments, culture and nature, and the visible and invisible infrastructures that sustain these systems.

The residency aims to identify, analyze and symbolically contribute to the healing of metabolic and systemic rifts within the territory, understood as the fractures separating local ecologies from economies, and natural rhythms from imposed models of productivity. The projects developed approach the territory through perspectives of deep and slow time, considering both contemporary dynamics and the geological, historical and environmental processes that shape the landscape.

A central axis of the program is water, understood not only as a resource but also as an index, a sensor and a medium for research. Through it, participants explore interconnected processes that run through the territory: systems of production, extractive technologies, hydrological memories, forms of resistance and local knowledge. Water becomes a lens through which to examine the spatialities produced by the relationship between land and technology, as well as the cultural, social and economic idiosyncrasies that arise from this relationship.

These residencies invite artistic practices that question conventional notions of territorial productivity, proposing other modes of listening, observation and critical engagement, where art becomes a tool for imagining sustainable futures and more balanced relationships between human and more-than-human systems.
