AADK Spain’s Sound Residencies are intergenerational and intercultural meeting spaces designed to explore and investigate the aural field, in both its natural and cultural dimensions. From an ecoacoustic perspective, the program promotes deep listening as a bodily, cultural, and political practice, capable of fostering new relationships with the surrounding territory.

These residencies are open to both experienced artists and non-experts interested in exploring sound as a tool for situated artistic research. The rural and peripheral context of the Valle de Ricote encourages attentive engagement with the environment, slower rhythms of work, and direct interaction with the landscape, local communities, and traditional knowledge.

The program approaches creativity as a tool to imagine new narratives about rural life. In this sense, the residencies act as a bridge between local musical traditions and contemporary sound practices—from folk roots to noise—highlighting endangered popular knowledge and supporting its revival through art.

The residencies are closely connected to other initiatives by the platform, such as ROTA, the annual experimental music festival that links Blanca with international networks.

How to apply

Visit our calls section to see all currently open programs and the documents required to apply. Find the program that best suits your needs, and feel free to contact us if you wish to propose another option.

Currently, there is no specific call for Sound Residencies. Applications can be made through the Situated Residencies call, with durations from one to six months (two months is the recommended minimum). The call opens several times a year.

Artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply, as well as researchers whose artistic practice is part of their study or methodology.

* We especially encourage applications from LGBTIQ+, BIPOC, and communities affected by armed conflict, exile, or structural exclusion.
