FAQs

What are the differences between the Residency Program and the Cruce Program?

There are several differences between our Cruce program and our Residency Program. Cruce has a different structure, the purpose of the program is to make it possible for us to share our resources and services in a more flexible way. The Residency Program’s approach is more focused on artistic research and process experimentation, while the Cruce Program’s approach is closer to that of an artistic or creative production residency.

One of the main differences between the two is that the Residency Program is a curatorial project whose lines of research are “body, territory and spatiality”, broad concepts that can be approached from different disciplines, and that link the process itself with the context. In the case of Cruce participants, their process does not need to be related to the context or the main axes of our platform.

In the case of the Residency Program, residents can come for a minimum period of one month, following the calendar month – from the 1st to the 30th. Most of the things we offer at Cruce are included in the residency. Residents have accommodation, they can work in one of our spaces in Centro Negra, they receive mentoring and feedback from our team, they can use our coworking space and their work is documented in photo and / or video format, we disseminate their work on networks, they have production assistance for their presentation at the Open Studios (does not include production costs), they become part of our archive and if we have the opportunity, we show their work at festivals or exhibitions where it fits.

The residency is granted 60% by us, the artists have to pay a residency fee of 700 eur/month, and an additional 250 eur in case they would like to stay in an individual apartment. When they are selected we can send them an invitation letter that helps them to find funding for their residency.

In the case of Cruce, applicants can choose from the different resources and services and pay for each of them individually (e.g. in case you want to use an artist studio, you have to request it as well in addition to the accommodation, and pay the respective fee – find the list of resources here). Cruce applicants can come for periods shorter than a month (minimum two weeks).

How is daily life in Blanca?

Please, keep in mind that in addition to its Artist Residency Program and Cruce Program, AADK Spain carries out another series of activities that involve local, national and international participants. We consider all of our guests, as well as our artists in residency and team members, participants of a temporary and shared community, where everyone commits to giving their best in pursuit of a harmonious coexistence in a small town.

Within this dynamic, individual routines and everyday rhythms of coexistence will emerge. Some months, there can be several group activities proposed and organized for the free time by both our team members or the artists in residency. Other months might be quieter. Because of this, it is particularly important to constructively communicate one’s own needs.

Regarding working spaces, they will be assigned to the artists on a monthly basis, according to their requirements and by mutual agreement with our team. In case you have any particular needs, please communicate them in advance. You will be able to access your workspace at any time. All artists work independently and can structure their working hours and everyday life themselves. Likewise, they should be aware that given the morphology of our main building, closed workspaces are not possible.

Blanca is a small rural town of 6000 inhabitants, located in the heart of the Ricote Valley, in the region of Murcia. You can enjoy the Segura River or visit the coast and its beaches, approximately 100 km away.
The temperature drops in autumn, although the average is usually 25 degrees. It is an ideal time to tour the Valley. Winters are dry and cold with irregular rainfall, but the sun warms during the day. Spring is also a recommended time to enjoy hiking in the Valley, with an average of 25 degrees and very sunny.
