07 Apr Ángela Guardado
July 2021
Angela comes to AADK Spain residency program with the intention of concentrating on writing literature -in which the voices of others embody the stories.
In her first month in Blanca, Angela explores the surroundings, inhaling her own impressions -the emotions that a new place imprints on your soul. Guardado´s primary drive to express these experiences takes the form of poetry.
But one’s own voice is not singular but multiple, and its form adapts to the place and time from which one speaks, as the sheets of paper occupy, and adapt to, the architecture in which they are presented.
The fragmentation of the poems also allows the reader not only to find their own resonances, but to recompose their structure, thus broadening the spectrum of possibilities.

Ángela Guardado is an artist whose medium is text. Her primary expression when sifting reality with her gaze is poetry, a suit that allows each person to shape it depending on their own experience.
The challenge that has been proposed for the residency was to try to create a novel, where everything apparently has a more concrete form and the pieces have to be carefully tacked together to weave a solid narrative.
In her literary exercises, Guardado is building characters and places that, despite being fictional, are not alien to her. Taking the main aspect around which the story subtly revolves -invisibility-, she ventures to intervene in public spaces by pasting poems on their walls and corners.
Doing this in a stealthy and discrete gesture shows how the visual noise and the constant stimuli to which we are subjected to make what is subtle invisible and the whispers unnoticed.
Angela is not afraid of her poems being ignored by the crowd, but seeks to meet the eyes of those willing to stop at the stealthy gestures.
