During her residency in Blanca, Bonny researches the concept of Hospitality, reflecting over the constant translocation of the guest and the host roles.
Influenced by the theory of Hossein Khosrowjah, Bonny wonders about the tension of the socio-cultural interrelations. When an individual moves from its native territory or place of belonging, and how, even in our daily life, we are constantly activating and deactivating identities in an attempt to acquire the space.
In a global context where the idea of belonging it’s constantly echoing, Bonny proposes through a video dialogue a fiction which allows her to roam, collecting bits and pieces of the daily life.
For this artwork she chooses a foreign kid, currently living in the town, as the host.
The video describes the moment in which a fictional character, played by the artist herself, lands in town and moves around discovering the territory. The piece builds an atmosphere that mixes humour, fiction and melancholy, describing multiple identities superimposed in the same timeframe.
The artist’s personal history faces the concepts of dislocation and permanence in a foreign land, thus the Spanish verb “extrañar” appears in its two different meanings: To miss and to become a stranger.
