These three dancers come together to create through research. Together they look for a theme that moves them, and after many conversations they find “silence” as a concept to explore. Like all concepts, this one is crossed and reshaped by diverse subjectivities, producing in each individual different interpretive nuances and thus unfolding a multitude of imaginaries. Aware of this diversity, they try to discover and interpret these differences.
As a result, they are developing a piece divided into four parts that deals with silence from different perspectives: “history,” “love,” “nature,” and “life–death–life.”
The work during the residency has substantially affected their way of relating to dance. Although they consider technique and discipline to be a strong foundation for their artistic expression, they are also aware of the standardization and repetition of patterns to which technical prowess leads. “Perfection” is only possible through repetition, but inevitably this ends up killing creativity and probably distances them from generating a true experience through dance.
For these reasons, here they have taken risks by working with people who have had no previous relationship with dance, and by placing themselves on the edge of the abyss of silence, they try to forget what they have learned in order to listen to the body and the space, allowing movement or stillness—flooded by all of this—to express itself in a state of being rather than performing.
