11 Feb Dominique Raack
Residency Programme : April 2016
Dominique wanted to use the opportunity of being away from her urban environment to get immersed in the nature. The door in, the path she took, was the very ancient idea of the four elements. Around this four elements were built not only the myths to explain and represent the natural phenomenon, but also many symbolic meanings related to the human -linking the air to mental ideas, thoughts, principles, spirit; the water to perceptions, emotions, time; the earth to the material world, including the body: and the fire to the will or power that drives us, the light that enables the cognition.
Drifting in the surroundings of Blanca she tried to capture the landscape and synthesize it. The images she composes integrate in one shape the qualities of the four elements. As a result, the photographs evoke images that could have been taken by a telescope or by a microscope. We could be watching a celestial body as well as a cell or a microorganism. This ambiguity can lead us to think on the strong relation existing in the cosmos -all is composed by the same matter.
