Residency Programme: October 2016-November 2016
October 2016
Eila is an artist who works mainly with painting, being this, her second residency with AADK Spain, en both times, she has challenged herself to express her interests in a different way, whether through sculpture, installation or performative actions.
Sculpture and performance merge in a live-installation where the body is connected to the space through a net which expands it as well as traps it, an extension of the body which reaches the heights while at the time all movement is coerced. A structure which reveals the conscious being that sees questioned its freedom and its capacity of affectation.
“If I pass into the world it is only through the ways I filter the touch through my body. I filter my experi-
ence into language. My interchange with the world builds my body and builds my concepts of time and space and of everything aesthetic. Experience is synonymous with consciousness – they are the same thing, feeding one into the other, building one another in the interwoven exchange called the Chiasm.
The world gains nothing from my naming and merely passes into me, into my consciousness, forming it, and into my body, forming it”.

Eila’s work inquires about prelinguistics, looking for universal languages where matter and senses constitute our relationship with the world. In these open studies, Eila shows parts of her research processes as an installation, while developing an action that consists of portraying the audience through the sense of touch.
