Searching for places with powerful energy, Iryna Vorona presents various works that capture her impressions of Blanca and the Murcia region.
“Soul without time borders”
In this project Iryna attempts to create psychological inner portraits with oil and mixed media techniques, in which features of locals are merged with those of her own. By an intuitive painting process the artist aims to capture ephemeral impressions and emotions of her days spent in Blanca, using hidden symbols as reminders of significant events.
Through this unique painting method and the materials used as a canvas, the artist merges people and environment into a single entity, while also reflecting on the connections between human and nature.
“Mixed light”
The artworks that belong to “Mixed light” are part of a project Iryna has been working on since 2015 in various countries including Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Spain, Norway and Finland. Through them the artist researches possible ways of combining art and technology, using technology not only as a tool to create the artwork but also as a tool to shape the way we think about art. The pieces present oil paintings combined with light technology, light installations and 3d video art. Light plays a crucial role in the process of perception of the artworks as it shapes the composition and thus brings the paintings to life. It creates an atmosphere charged with intensity, duplicity and mystery and triggers the viewers’ imagination to bring about emotionally sensitive interpretations.
Video art projection “Semana Santa”
Iryna Vorona (Kyiv) conjointly with Pavlo Baltaziuk
With her residency period falling in April, Iryna was wholly impressed by the Spanish traditions surrounding the Semana Santa (Holy Week) celebration, with a history of over 500 years.
In the costumes, music and emotions of this tradition Iryna felt something of the soul of the people. On the faces of thousands of locals who gathered to see these processions she saw reflected a tradition that carries through the ages. She perceived that all of the people had a holy light that connected them to the ancestors, the individual connecting to the whole through spirituality. Using portraiture and video media, she intuitively creates from her impressions of these processions in order to share the depth of her reflections on this event.
“You are beautiful”
Mixed media work
Conjointly with Pavlo Baltaziuk (video) and Esther Fins (sound)
Combining painting, video and sound recordings made by Esther Fins during a pilgrimage, this piece is an exploration of feminine energy and devotion.
