Art Residencies in Isolation: Public Presentation of the first edition

New immersive artistic experiences in the Ricote Valley. 

AADK Spain, an international artistic platform based in Blanca, Murcia, is launching a new project in collaboration with the Municipality of Ojós. This initiative approaches the territory of the Ricote Valley through immersive artistic practices, which will be developed in the framework of Art Residencies in Isolation, carried out in Ermita del Mayés, and its surrounding area. 

These new Art Residencies offer a place for introspection, a place to reflect on nature, spirituality, history and tradition of the region. The project invites to revisit ancestral traditions such as pilgrimage, community gatherings and rituals, through a contemporary perspective. 

During 2023, 4 residencies with international artists will take place. The first of these will be supported by the Culture Moves Europe programme of the European Union and will feature the artist and performer Márcio Kerber Canabarro (Brazil – Germany):

“It is a desire to investigate the capacity to feel through an immersive residency in solitude, living in isolation for 20 days, exploring the landscape through night walks, the isolation connects us with the unknown that at the same time arouses fear and hope.” 

“The landscape thinks, dreams, remembers with you, evoking people and their emotional geography. This can be an essay, a lecture, an installation, a film, a dance class, a walk, a getaway, a meditation but above all a set of impressions of a biographical invitation to be in isolation.”  

Each invited artist will culminate his/her residency with a public presentation. 

As a closing of the first edition, we invite you to visit the work Phototropism, by Marcio, on the 29th of April, at 12.00 hs. in the Ermita del Mayés, Ojós.

To collect the experiences of this new initiative, Al-Darrax Ediciones will produce a series of publications and podcasts throughout the year. These will compile testimonies, dissertations and conclusions of the participants, from an anthropological and artistic perspective. Its intention is to provide new insights into the identity of the Ricote Valley, an intervened territory.

More about Al-Darrax Ediciones:

Al-Darrax is an independent project that compiles and published artistic material created in the Ricote Valley, presenting contents connected to the territory we inhabit. Its publications are focused on sound creations, audiovisuals, poetry, philosophical expressions and critical thinking. 

The mountain continually edits the landscape that surrounds it and is permeable to the climate that accompanies it at all times. Al-Darrax Ediciones is the mountain that moves continuously showing its different faces and landscape expressions.
