Naomi draws organic maps of banal moments, the specifics of which fade quickly into myth.
She investigates the relationship between memory and physical objects.
With her work she poses questions such as: Can structures and objects be imprinted with memories or ideas? Does a bowl or chair resonate beyond functionality? Can the remnants of another person’s experience be accessed through objects? By binding her body to diverse elements she attempts to access what remains of another person’s experience.

Naomi’s current practice concerns creating honest gestures through drawing, performance and photography. Collections of drawings begin to map banal abstract moments. In video and photographs, the point of contact between the body and domestic objects requires one to re-navigate the everyday and one’s body. Naomi’s work resides in the space between whimsy and sincerity and asks the question whether objects have memories or are memories placed on objects.

November 2019

During the three months of her residency, Naomi has created over 500 drawings. She uses photography to reevaluate domestic spaces and objects. In one series of photographs she directs attention between the body and domestic objects that requires one to re-navigate the everyday and one’s body. Other photographs feature hand-made objects, which are worn on the body while the artist engages in mundane domestic activities. Naomi’s work resides in the space between whimsy and sincerity and asks the question whether objects have personal histories and if those histories change with use. She has also written a series of erasure poems based on Song of Songs, entitled “OOO” that are forthcoming in E•ratio Poetry Journal, Issue 29.
