Allegories: Water and Earth
The two photographs from the ‘Allegories’ series presented by Olia Fedorova navigate on the crossline between nature and culture. As a starting point for her artistic investigation, Olia has been searching for ways to represent natural elements without directly showing them on the images. Therefore Water and Earth are evoked by the effects of their interaction with the artist’s body through a piece of white fabric.
The pieces are charged with the symbolism of the natural elements and the white cloth, inviting for various possible connotations depending on the viewer’s cultural, social and historical references and on the context in which they are placed.
