Residency Program : July 2022
“How can we create a body of time? Does a memory have an expiration date? Those are the fundamental questions from where the research is developed. How can we communicate from images to the next generations? What are the secrets of empathising with someone else’s memoir contained in an object?”
She emphasises the invisible empathetic weight contained by obsolete objects like old analogic photographs, found broken domestic items.
Selene mediates new dialogs between these objects and the viewer, reactivating their purpose as symbols of temporal permanence.
She tries to hold fragments of time, at the same time allowing and accepting their vanishing features, finding the balance between bringing back and letting go, the visible and the veiled, the known and the imagined.
In small installations, paintings, and mixed media creations she brings us into worlds in which the familiar and the alien are strong dialectical forces.
