Work in progress. Video by Julieta Lasarte

At the January open studios Tomo Sone presents a video dance and a piece of a performance where she explores the intangible features of movement.

Playing with presence and absence, the aesthetic movement changes into different qualities, showing darker sides of daily incidents. Simple movement actually contains many emotions, hidden senses and several layers of meaning similar to our lives.  These will slowly show up to the surface of movement.

By using the image of the cloud, which expresses a gap between a performer, choreographer and the audience, Tomo is trying  to create a dance piece with a sense of humor. The video is experimental and it is helpful to realize and expand her image more.

During her research about clouds, she was very inspired by the works of René Magritte and his quote:

“Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.”

Choreography, Performance, Props: Tomo Sone

Video: Julieta Lasarte, Josman P#

In this work Tomo addresses the relationship between the audience, the dancer and choreographer. Tomo makes a parallelism with the idea of translation. How much can be literal  and how much is just pure interpretation. Who is the observed and the observer. How do we make the soundscape of life into music and the movement of the audience into dance.

In the beginning of the piece, the movement tends to be beautiful, sensitive, measuring, cold

and robotic. Gentle and small transitions change into animalistic, warm and humanly movements.

The introduction of the text reflects the challenge of building a dance piece by the dancer who is understanding/interpreting the scores of a choreographer. What differs a mind to mind communication from the response of a machine is the human imagination.

By using the image of the cloud, which expresses a gap between a performer, a choreographer and the audience, she is also exploring how we are dealing with the expectation from others inside a society where hierarchy is existing.
